SDF-Silver Diamine Fluoride
What is SDF/Silver Diamine Fluoride?
SDF is an inexpensive, non-invasive medicament that is applied topically. It is 38% SDF, a silver fluoride salt made soluble in water through the addition of ammonia. SDF is used to delay or arrest the progression of a cavity. It is a liquid that is painted on the teeth. Not all teeth with cavities can be treated with SDF. Some cavities are too large. Teeth treated with SDF will turn black in the area of the cavity and remain so until a dental restoration is placed or the tooth falls out. Repeat applications of SDF are often necessary. For more information on SDF, please consult with one of our board certified pediatric dentists.
